يتناول كتاب (الجمالية والواقعية في نقدنا الأدبي الحديث) والذي قام بتأليفه عصام محمد الشنطي، موضوع (النقد الأدبي) هذا الكتاب يحدثنا مؤلفه عن مدرستين مختلفتين في نقدنا العربي الحديث، وهاتان المدرستان تمثلان تيارين متباينين متنازعين، وهما الجمالية والواقعية، وقد تطرق المؤلف إلى كلتا المدرستين، متناولا المعالم التاريخية لكل واحدة منهما، والإرهاصات الأولى لنشأة كلتا المدرستين في الغرب، والظروف التي مرت بهما، ثم انتقالهما إلى عالمنا العربي وثمت الإلماح إلى رجالهما العرب الذين تبنوا فكرهما وساروا على منوالها، ممثلين أسسهما ومبادئهما.
