الكتاب تضمن دراسة تقدم معلومات أساسية عن السلاحف البحرية في دولة قطر، وكذلك تضم بعض النصوص المرجعية لكل المهتمين. حيث قام (قسم البحار ومركز الدراسات البيئية)، بتنفيذ خطة عمل لمسح السواحل القطرية (من الشمال وحنى الحدود الجنوبية من شبه الجزيرة القطرية)؛ لجمع بيانات بيولوجية ورصد أعشاش السلاحف البحرية ونشاطاتها. والهدف من المسح أيضا توفير قاعدة بيانات أساسية عن المظاهر البيئية للسلاحف، وبيولوجيا التكاثر وتجمعات أعشاش السلاحف في الساحل القطري. كما ركزت الدراسة على أخذ القياسات البارومترية للبيض، والفقس، والإناث الناضجة ونجاح الفقس الموسمي.
