يهدف الكتاب إلى إعداد المحرر المترجم الذي يجمع بين القدرة على الترجمة والتحرير في نفس الوقت وينقسم الكتاب إلى مقدمة وست وحدات تتناول الوحدة الأولى أسس وقواعد الترجمة والتحرير الصحفي ومهام محرر الشئون الخارجية. وتتناول الوحدة الثانية نماذج تطبيقية لترجمة الأخبار والتقارير والتعليقات. وتقدم الوحدة الثالثة نماذج لترجمة وتحرير تعليقات الصور. أما الوحدة الرابعة فتضم مقالات مختارة حول حرب المصطلحات واللعنة المراوغة في الإعلام والسياسة. بينما تقدم الوحدة الخامسة مفاهيم سياسية مبسطة باللغة العربية. وتضم الوحدة السادسة والأخيرة مجمعا إعلاميا وسياسيا موجزا بأهم المفردات الأكثر استخداما وشيوعا في الوسط الإعلامي.
