نهدف من هذا الكتاب إلى بيان وتوضيح بعض مراحل النمو المختلفة التي يمر بها كل الأطفال في مختلف أنحاء العالم شرقه وغربه شماله وجنوبه، وكل مرحله من هذه المراحل لها خصائصها وشكلها ووقتها، فالنمو الطبيعي هو الهاجس الأعظم لكل الأباء والأمهات، يتمنوا أن يرزق الله أطفالهم النمو الطبيعي، ويراقبون أطفالهم في هذه المراحل المختلفة، بل يستعجلون بعض الأشياء مثل الجلوس ثم الزحف ثم المشي ثم الأسنان ثم الفهم والتمييز والنطق، ويودون لو أن كل هذه الأمور لو تمت لأطفالهم بين يوم وليلة وهذا مستحيل، وبعض من الذين لا يعرفون ولا يعلمون ولا يقرؤون يصيبهم القلق على أبنائهم بمجرد أن قام نظير طفلهم بأي نمو قبل طفلهم، فتنقلب حياتهم حزنا وكمدا على تأخر أطفالهم دون أن يعرفوا الأسباب.
