يختلف هذا الكتاب عن غيره من الكتب التي ألفت في هذا المجال في أنه ليس سردا لتاريخ الطب الإسلامي، كما أنه لا يتعرض للوصفات الطبية التي يزخر بها هذا النظام الطبى، وإنما يبرز فلسفة ومقومات الطب الإسلامي والتي تتلخص مرتكزاتها في الآتي : الصلة الوثيقة بالله تعالى. الرقابة الذاتية لدى من يمارسون هذا الطب والنابعة من الإحساس بالمسئولية أمام الله تعالى، واليقين بالمحاسبة والجزاء يوم الحساب. البعد الإنساني المتمثل في النظرة للإنسان، بوصفه جسدا وروحا. تكريم الإنسان واحترامه باعتباره كائنا متميزا عن غيره من الكائنات الحية التي تعيش على سطح الأرض، وليس امتدادا لها نشوءا وارتقاء. وهذه الخصائص الجوهرية هى التى يمتاز بها الطب الإسلامي عن الطب الغربي.
