انتشرت الكثير من الوسائل المعاصرة التي ساعدت على انتشار الكثير من المواد المخدرة ذات التأثير السلبي على النواحي الاقتصادية والصحية والاجتماعية والنفسية وذلك على العديد من المستويات الفردية والمجتمعية، وكذلك على مستوى كافة الفئات والشرائح المتباينة. هذا، ويمكن القول إن البيئة الاجتماعية المحيطة تمارس تأثيرا كبيرا على سلوكيات الأفراد والجماعات، وعليه يتضح أن الإقبال على المواد المخدرة؛ إنما يعد مسؤولية المجتمع بأكمله، وهنا نجد أن تطور الوسائل الاتصالية الحديثة في العصر الراهن يمكن الاعتماد عليها في تقليل فرص الانحراف، أو الدخول في عالم السلوكيات الإجرامية، وذلك في إطار الدور الذي تقوم به شبكة الإنترنت والقنوات الفضائية في التوعية بمخاطر تلك الآفة الخطيرة، هذا إلى جانب استثارة الميول الإيجابية، ونقل الصور الواقعية حول التأثيرات السلبية التي تشتمل عليها المخدرات على المستوى الاجتماعي، والاقتصادي، والجسماني والنفسي، وخاصة على مستوى فئات الشباب.
