زاد اهتمام دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة في الآونة الأخيرة بتطبيق مبادئ الحوكمة ؛ لما حازه هذا المفهوم من اهتمام المجتمع الدولي المتزايد ؛ لضمان حسن استمرارية الأعمال والاستقرار المؤسسي، وتجنبه للأزمات سواء كانت مالية أو غير مالية. ويعد مصطلح الحوكمة من مفاهيم الإدارة الحديثة التي نالت اهتماما كبيرا في السنوات الأخيرة الماضية ؛ لمساهمته الكبيرة في تحقيق الجودة والتميز بالأداء المؤسسي. وبعد الاطلاع والبحث، لوحظ أنه لا يوجد تعريف واحد متفق عليه؛ وذلك لتداخل هذا المفهوم في العديد من الأمور التنظيمية والإقتصادية والمالية والإجتماعية للمؤسسات، ولكن اتفق الجميع على أنها مجموعة من الإجراءات التي تضمن أن تدار أية مؤسسة بشكل صحيح وفعال، والتأكد من أن العاملين بالمؤسسة بجميع الطبقات الوظيفية يتصرفون بشكل ملائم، وفقاً للقوانين والممارسات السليمة.
