ابتدأت المؤلفة في مقدمة الكتاب بالحديث عن أهمية العلاقات الكويتية موضحة قلة ما كتب عن هذه العلاقة. وربما أوثق ما يعكس هذه العلاقة الكلمة القائلة (الهند هندك لو قل ما عندك). ثم تكلمت عن الموقع الجغرافي للكويت الذي لعب دورا مهما في التواصل التجاري بينها وبين الهند ؛ لذا كان توجه الكويتيين إلى البحر طلبا للعيش نتيجة لقسوة الظروف الطبيعية المحيطة.
