يرسم هذا الكتاب صورة مؤثرة وحميمة تفطر القلب في أغلب الأحيان عن حال الشيشان اليوم ويقدم كتاب ملاك غروزني أيضا وصفا حيا لتاريخها المشوب بالعنف ومعركتها المستمرة من أجل الحرية في الساعات الأولى من ليلة رأس السنة عام 1994 غزت القوات الروسية جمهورية الشيشان فأقحمت البلاد في نزاع طويل ودموي لا يزال مستمرا إلى يومنا هذا كانت كاتبتنا تعمل حينئذ مراسلة أجنبية في موسكو فسافرت بشكل منتظم إلى الشيشان لكي تنتقل أخبار الحرب وبينت تأثيرها على أولئك الذين يحاولون أن يعيشوا حياتهم اليومية في غمرة العنف في عامي 1996 و1997 عادت إلى الشيشان سرا وعرضت نفسها لأخطار شتى كانت المأساة في الشيشان لا تزال مستمرة.
