هذا الكتاب يوضح الجانب الفكري والفلسفي من عصر التنوير بأسلوب يجمع بين الدقة المنطقية والسهولة بالاداء بحيث إنه حقا بمتناول أي مثقف يعنيه هذا الموضوع، وهو يكرس الفصل الأول لجون لوك الذي أجمع المفكرون والعلماء والأدباء في ذلك العصر على اعتباره واضع أصول منهجهم في البحث الذي عرف بالمنهج التجريبي وبعده يتوالى المفكرون منهم مثلا فولتير وكوندياك، بيركلي ودافيد هيوم، إلخ .. وهؤلاء وغيرهم هم واضعوا أصول فكرنا اليوم. والواقع أن كتابنا هذا واحد من سلسلة حلقاتها متكاملة، ومع ذلك فلكل منها استغلالها التام بحيث أن كل جزء يشكل وحدة متكاملة.
