جاء في كلمة المؤلف حول فضل هذه الدراسة : \"هذه مجموعة مختارة من حوارات كثيرة أجريتها على مدى سنوات متطاولة بعض أصحابها رحل عن دنيانا، وآمل أن يطيل الله في عمر الذين مازالوا يمدون أرواحنا بإبداعهم، ويعمقون إحساسنا بالحياة، ويكتشفون فيها منابع جديدة للأمل بحب صادق، في عالم نظيف لقد آثرت نشر هذه الحوارات إيمانا مني بأن الحوار قوة، ومتعة، ومعرفة حميمة، واختيار لأصدقاء فكر، ومعاناة، ورؤيا، فضلا عما فيه من إضاءة لعوالم شخصيات قد يكون أحدها أنت دون أن تدري\". قسمت هذه الدراسة لأربع حواريات: الحوارية الأولى : يوسف إدريس، الحوارية الثانية : د. لطيفة الزيات، الحوارية الثالثة : الطيب صالح، الحوارية الرابعة : عبد الله الطوخي.
