تمثل قصة مايتا توجها جديدا في أعمال بارفاس يوسا، فنحن نرى الروائي البيروني نفسه شخصية تشارك في كتابة الرواية التي نقرؤها وتطور مسارها، فشخصية الروائي التي تجمع شهادات تشكل بنية الرواية، يكشف لنا في النهاية أن الوقائع الحقيقة مختلفة تماما وأشد فقرا بكثير من التخييل الروائي، مؤكدا بذلك مقولة أنه يمكن للرواية أن تكون أكثر غنى وإقناعا من التاريخ. ففي بلاد منكوبة تتعرض لغزو خارجي وتتردى في أوضاع اجتماعية واقتصادية بائسة وتطغى عليها ظلمة المجهول، يسعى الروائي-من خلال شهادات متعددة-إلى إعادة بناء قصة مناضل ثوري يدعى اليخاندرو مايتا، بطل محاولة ثورية محبطة في العام ١٩٥٨ وسجين بعد ذلك عدة مرات في ظروف ملتبسة وفي نهاية ذلك التقصي الطويل، تأتي المواجهة مع الواقع لتضع هذه القصة الكخوتية في مكانها الدقيق. إنها رؤية مريرة وتراجيكوميدية لحالات التطرف الثوري والحنين إلى الملاحم.
