يتناول الكتاب في قسمه الأول دراسة نظرية تتضمن سردا تاريخيا عن الزبداني، ثم دراسة عن المثل العامي وتأثره بالمحيط الجغرافي والبيئي بشكل عام، وعن المثل الزبداني بصفة خاصة، والعوامل التي أدت إلى ظهوره وتداوله بشكله الحالي، وتم ذكر بعض قصص الأمثال. ثم ترد الأمثال العامية المتداولة في المنطقة ويلي كل مثل شرحا وافيا لمعناه ووقت ضربه واستعين بالهوامش البيان معاني الكلمات الغريبة. وقد تم ترتيب الأمثال حسب المواضيع المختلفة التي تناولتها تسهيلا للدراسة.
