قامت على يد الشعوب الإسلامية حضارة امتدت فأنارت بلاد الإمبراطورية الإسلامية ونشرت أشعتها على ربوع العالم في عصر يسيطر فيه الجهل والعبودية على بلاد الغرب وللفنون الإسلامية حدود ومعطيات، فأساليب الصنعة عند المعماريين والنساجين والمصورين وصناع التحف المعدنية والخشبية والزجاجية، تنطبع بطراز واحد، كما أنها في الوقت نفسه ليست متناظرة ولا متشابهة في أقاليم الإمبراطورية الإسلامية، لأن الحرف والصناعات الفنية ظلت بعد الفتوح الإسلامية فترة من الزمن في أيد أهل البلاد المفتوحة. ثم لعب التمازج والتأثر الحضاري دوره في هذه الصناعات فتطورت بعض تمسك بالماضي، إلا إن ذلك التطور لم يكن استسلاما الشيء مع الأسس الحديثة بل تألفا واصطفاء.
