هذا الكتاب عرض شامل لمذهب هيجل، يلخصه في خطوطه الأساسية، ويصفه في إطاره السياسي والفكري، فيبين كيف تفاعل الفيلسوف مع الأحداث ففهمها وتجاوزها كما يتجاوز كل فيلسوف كبير مرحلته التاريخية هيجل أفلاطون المصور الحديثة أو هيجل هو أبو الحداثة. ويقصد بها أن مؤلف (علم المنطق) وضع، بتأليف هذا الكتاب الأساسي والكتب التي سبقته وتلته الأسس التي نشأ بالاستناد إليها العقل الحديث بما هو حديث. أن هيجل خاتمة الفلسفة الكلاسيكية، لخصها ومذهبها. وهو في الوقت ذاته، بدأ مرحلة جديدة من مراحل الفكر الإنساني. والفلاسفة الذين تلوا هيجل (ماركس، نيتشه، كبر كجرد، إلخ .. ) في محاولتهم لمناهضته ولتهديمه. مدينون له بالمفاهيم الأساسية التي ارتكزوا إليها. ومع هذا فمؤلف هذا الكتاب ليس هيجليا ولا مثاليا، بل هو مدرس للفلسفة، ينطلق من ماركس ليقرأ هيجل. وهو يفيد من منجزات العلوم الإنسانية الأخيرة في اللغة والمجتمع وعلم النفس.
