يعد أسامة ممثلا للشعر والنثر في النصف الثاني من العصر العباسي، وكان مؤثرا في الحياة السياسية والعسكرية في عصره. ذلك أن نشاطه السياسي والعسكري والحربي انعكس في السجلات التاريخية لذلك الوقت، كما أن آثاره الأدبية لقيت اهتماما جيدا من الناقدين وواضعي المجموعات الشعرية أو المختارات الأدبية. إن اهتمامي بتقديم هذه الشخصية العربية السورية نابع من كونها شخصية وطنية بامتياز. فالتعرف إلى حياة أسامة وأدبه وشعره هو تعرف إلى نشوء المشاعر الوطنية وتطورها في الأدب العربي، وتبيان المستوى مفهوم الوطن عند أسامة القائد الشاعر. إضافة إلى أنه في تأليفه التاريخية قدم رصدا كاملا للحياة العسكرية والاجتماعية والثقافية .. وغيرها.
