يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يرسم صورة لروائي كانت له بصمته الواضحة في الرواية العربية التي أبدع فيها، لأنها كانت صادرة عن معاناة بدأت معه تشردا منذ ولادته إلى أواخر حياته امتزج فيها القهر والفقر والعذاب والجوع، يحملها منذ صغره على كاهله مرة إلى الجبل، ومرة إلى البحر وثالثة إلى المرفأ عاملا صغيرا، وفي الرابعة يستقر في دمشق عسى أن يجد راحةً كان يبحث عنها، لكن أمواج البحر كانت دائما تتردد أصواتها في أذنيه للعودة إلى مدينته الجميلة ليكون الاستقرار الأخير.
