قد تبدو محاولة الإحاطة بالتجربة الإبداعية للفنان التشكيلي والقاص والشاعر فاتح المدرس شاقة للوهلة الأولى ؛ إذ يعد المدرس من أبرز وأهم التشكيليين السوريين في القرن العشرين، وأول من أسس للتجريدية في سورية، كما أنه فنان له تجربته الفنية الخاصة والمتشعبة ؛ تجربة اتسمت بالتمرد والعبقرية في فنه التشكيلي وكتاباته القصصية والشعرية والنقدية، كما أن عالمه الإبداعي والإنساني غني ومتنوع، وبين الرسم والقص والشعر والموسيقا، تطالعنا فلسفته الإنسانية العميقة، فقد عايش المدرس هموم الإنسان وأخلص لها، وصورها بأسلوبه، ومارس نزعته التهكمية بألوانه وكلماته ورموزه.
