انك لن تجد بين الشعراء العرب المعاصرين، من هو أكثر رقة وعذوبة من نزار قباني، حينما يتغنى بالحب والجمال وفي الوقت نفسه لن تجد من هو أعنف منه حينما يتصدى لقضايا الوطن الكبرى، كما أنك لن تجد شاعرا آثار الجدل والاختلاف حول شعره وشخصيته ومواقفه أكثر منه. فقد ملأ الدنيا حقا، وشغل الناس، الذين انقسموا إلى متحمسين له، وناقمين عليه. لذلك ربما كان أصدق ما يمكن وصفه به أنه أشبه بعاصفة هبت على مدن الوطن العربي وقراه كلها، ونثرت عليها الياسمين والجمال والحب، وفي الوقت نفسه أضرمت فيها نار الغضب والثورة، وأذكت روح الكفاح والمقاومة، ولا سيما بعد أن استطاع تحقيق مأثرته الكبرى في جعل شعره في متناول الناس جميعهم على اختلاف أعمارهم وأهوائهم وثقافاتهم، فراحت قصائده ترف على كل شفة ولسان.
