الليبرالية الجديدة الإنسان ليس حرا الإنسان ليس عبدا الإنسان (شبه حر) في كل بحث عن الحرية (نظريا وبالشواهد الواقعية) سنظل نرى أن الإنسان لن يكون حرا مالم يعش مع أحرار، أي إنك ستكون حرا بمقدار ماتعطي غيرك حريته. ولو أصر كل واحد على حريته لما بقي حر واحد على وجه البسيطة (ويلسون)، أو كما قال جون لاكريه : لقد تنازلنا عن حريات كثيرة لكي نكون أحرارا، وهذا يتفق مع مقولة برتراند راسل عن الحرية السلبية، أي إنك لن تكون حرا مالم تعط غيرك حريته، وكلما حرمت غيرك تحولت إلى مستبد مع عبيد.
