Overview
تحكي مؤلفة الكتاب، قمر كيلاني، عن تاريخ دمشق، مبينة انه انطلقت منها الفتوحات، زمن الأمويين، وكذلك سطعت شمسها، فدانت لها الحضارات وامتدت إلى أوروبا، ثم أشرقت عليها شمس العلوم والإبداع والعمران وازدهار البلدان. وتتحول المؤلفة إلى وصف العاصمة السورية، موضحة أنه تحوطها أسوار حصينة، وهذه الأسوار لها أبواب عددها سبعة، وهي : (باب شرقي، باب توما، باب الفراديس أو العمارة، باب الجابية، باب النصر، باب الفرج، باب السلام). كما أن المنطقة الواقعة بين هذه الأبواب هي دمشق القديمة. وما عداها من بساتين وحدائق غناء، وكذلك تشكل كلا من الغوطتين : الشرقية والغربية.
