هذه دروس قدري العمر لتلاميذ القسم الأول من الشهادة الثانوية، كما تكونت عبر تدريسه الأدب طوال ما يناهز النصف قرن، كان قدري العمر على درجة من التواضع عصمته من الغرور والادعاء، فلم تكن دروسه في نظره تاريخا للأدب الغربي، ولا دراسات نقدية مبتكرة إلا انه كان على درجة من الذوق، الفني والذكاء الفطري، من عمق النظرة والقدرة على الإبانة، ما جعله يضع كتابا أثمن بكثير من الدراسات المدرسية إذ أن حدسه كان يمكنه من أن ينفذ الى الأساسي في كل شاعر أو اديب يدرس، ويقدمه لنقارىء بكلمات مقتضبة بهذا الأسلوب المتميز ترك لنا قدري العمر أثرا نفسيا هو نموذج للدارس ومتعة للقارىء يفيد منه المتخصص والمبتدىء على حد سواء، وبعد فإن الكتاب صورة عن الكاتب ولقد كان رحمه الله فنانا بطبعه، أديبا بفطرته، مهذبا في تكوينه، سمو اخلاقه وضعه فوق الصفائر كلها .
