يدور الكتاب حول (نزيه الشهبندر) وقد كان واعيا للسينما، عاشقا لها، شغوفا بها، وهو يعلم تماما أنها الوليد الوافد الجديد إلى الحياة، الذي سينمو من دون توقف، سواء في بلادنا أم في أي مكان من العالم. تأثر الشهبندر بكثير من تفاصيل الحياة الدمشقية البسيطة، وظهر اهتمامه جليا بالمخترعات الكهربائية ؛ فقد أنشأ في سينما (الهبرا) القديمة بباب توما \"استديو\"، وجهزه بمعدات التصوير والصوت والإضاءة والطبع والتحميض، كان معظمها مبتكرا من قبله، فضلا عن ريادته في تأسيس مختبر سينمائي، يحتوي على كل متطلبات العمل السينمائي. إن \"نزيه الشهبندر\" واحد من رواد السينما في سورية، وقد أسس لمن جاؤوا بعده.
