Overview
يدور الكتاب حول (حمد ذياب (أبو صابر)) من بسطاء الناس تطوع في الجيش الفرنسي، وأدرك بنظرته السليمة معنى الاستعمار فتمرد عليه وانضم إلى ثوار جبل العرب واستبسل في معارك هذا الجبل الأشم والغوطتين ؛ ثم اعتقل وعذب ونفي إلى غويانا (في أمريكا الجنوبية)، فعاش في أدغالها جائعا، عطشا، عريان، ربع قرن، ولكن بقي في أعماق نفسه من العزيمة والرجولة ما مكنه من العودة إلى وطنه، وممارسة عمله إنسانا بين الناس. إذا قرأت هذه الرواية فستظن لأول وهلة أنها من ابداع روائي فنان، ولكن الأديب سلامة عبيد اقتصر على دور المؤرخ الأمين ؛ ومع ذلك فالتاريخ الذي يسرده قطعة فنية تربطك بمن هم حقا أبطال هذا الوطن وأبناءه.
