هذا الكتاب عبارة عن محاولة للإحاطة بالروايات التي صدرت في الدول العربية وعددها يناهز 5700 رواية، طبع بعضها في القرن التاسع عشر وكثير منه في القرن العشرين، وما مضي من القرن الحادي والعشرين، ويقدم المؤلف محاولة للإحاطة بالدراسات النقدية والأدبية التي صدرت عن الرواية العربية عموما وعن أحد الروائيين العرب خصوصا، ويمثل الكتاب أيضا محاولة للإحاطة بالدراسات النقدية العربية والأجنبية المساعدة على ترسيخ التحليل النقدي للرواية فضلا عن الدراسات النقدية التي تحيط بالفعالية النقدية العربية وتعينها على تحليل النصوص، والكتاب مقسم إلى قمسين القسم الأول انصرف إلى الرواية العربية، والقسم الثاني انصرف إلى مصادر دراسة الرواية العربية ونقدها.
