يتوزع الكتاب على خمسة أقسام تتحدث عن مظاهر أزمة المشهد الثقافي العربي، وإشكالية القراءة كظاهرة وممارسة اجتماعية في العالم العربي الذي لم يعد يقرأ مع إطلالة القرن الحادي والعشرين، كما كان يقرأ بحيوية نسبية في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين. ويعرج الكتاب على ثورة الاتصالات والمعلومات، وإشكالية القراءة التي فرضت وجودها، بعد الانتقال من (العصر الورقي) إلى (العصر الإلكتروني) وانتشار ثقافة الفساد وسطوة (ثقافة الاستهلاك) في المجتمعات العربية التي قدمت كل ما هو حسيا غرائزيا تسطيحي للعقل، على الاحتياجات الفكرية والروحية التي كان ينعشها مشهدا ثقافيا إنسانيا.
