يروي هذا الكتاب صراعات القوة الفارسية والنزاعات المحلية الأخرى حول التجارة في الخليج، وحول شؤون شركات الهند الشرقية الأوروبية. وحين وفاة نادر شاه في عام 1747م، كانت بلاد فارس قوة ذات هيمنة حقيقية، إلا أن الفراغ الذي تلا ذلك شهد بداية تأسيس العتوب في البحرين والقرين (الكويت). كما ترسخ الشيوخ العرب على الساحل الفارسي بمراكزهم التجارية، وانضمت القوى على الساحل العربي للخليج إلى تلك الصراعات، فنشاهد آل بوسعيد في مسقط، والقواسم في جلفار. إن هذا الكتاب يعد مصدرا للباحثين عن تاريخ الأسر الحاكمة على ضفتي الخليج، وهو مرجع للباحثين في الاقتصاد والتجارة في الخليج في تلك الفترة.
