برع المصريون القدماء منذ عصورهم المبكرة في استغلال المواد المتوفرة في البيئة المصرية ومن ثم أتقنوا الكثير من الصناعات، وكانت عظمة وروعة هذه الصناعات نتيجة لمهارات الصناع والحرفيين. ينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى تسعة عشر بابا تناول فيهم الكاتب دراسة لكل من : المواد اللاصقة، وصناعة المشروبات الروحية والمنتجات الحيوانية، ومواد البناء، ومواد التجميل والعطور وكيفية ترصيع العيون، وصناعة الألياف، وصناعة الزجاج، ومواد الكتابة، وصناعة الفخار والزيوت، كما تضمن الكتاب بابا عن التحنيط وبابا عن الفلزات والسبائك والكتاب جدير بالقراءة لأنه يعد من أوائل الكتب التي تتناول دراسة موضوع المواد والصناعات في مصر القديمة.
