يحاول البحث إتخاذ موقف من طبيعة الخلاف الذي ما يزال قائما بين الباحثين والنقاد العرب وغيرهم في تحديد شعر طرفة الصحيح لتأصيله وتمييزه من شعره المنحول عليه. ولعلي لا أبالغ إذا قلت إن طبيعة هذا الخلاف مفتعلة لأنها لا تقوم على دعائم موضوعية، فمعظم هذه الدراسة افتقرت إلى من شعر طرفة لا أساس نقدي علمي موضوعي متماسك واضح ذي منهج، ولذلك فقد بقيت القصائد المتحولة تش كل جزءا نستطيع فصلها وإبعادها عنه لعدم توفر الأدلة الكافية والعلمية من أجل هذه الغاية، إذ اكتفت أفضل هذه الدراسات بإعتماد نسخ الديوان وما بها من خلل ونقص، وأقوال النقاد دليلاً لهذا الفصل. وعلى الرغم من ذلك فإن هذه التجارب وإن حدست بالفصل ووجود النحل إلا أنها لم تستطع الجزم به.
