بعد فقدان كثير من الأسر السورية اللاجئة معيلها التقليدي تحت وطأة الحرب القائمة ألقيت مهمة إعالة تلك الأسر على كواهل النساء واللواتي لجأن إلى أنماط مختلفة من آليات التكيف الاقتصادي للوفاء باحتياجات أسرهن ويقدم الكتاب نظرة أولية في الظاهرة من خلال ثلاثة محاور تحليلية الأول يدور حول اللاجئات الحضريات المعيلات والثاني يتناول سبل العيش لدى اللاجئين الحضريين وآليات تكيفهم أما المحور الثالث فيدور حول سياق اللجوء السوري في إسطنبول وذلك بالارتكاز في الجانب النظري على نظرية التكيف وبعض نظريات الجندر إضافة إلى منظومة سبل العيش المستدامة.
