أراد المؤلف من هذا الكتاب هدفين أولهما إستقصاء ما تناثر من موشحات لسان الدين في مظانها المختلفة وبعث أثر نفيس من آثاره الأدبية ليكون في متناول الدارسين والمهتمين بأدب الأندلس بعامة وأدب لسان الدين بخاصة، وثانيهما إضاءة جانب من جهود لسان الدين الأدبية وغفل عن دراسته الباحثون على الرغم من كثرة الدراسات التي أفردت له دون أن يكون لفن التوشيح نصيب منها وإبراز ما أضافه لسان الدين إلى فن التوشيح من خصائص وسمات فضلا على ما لهذا البحث من بالغ الأهمية في الدراسات الأدبية العربية في الأندلس.
