تناول الكتاب أنه من بين أعمال الروائي المكسيكي كارلوس فوينتس تقف هذه الرواية القصيرة \"أورا\" قطعة من العذوبة والجمال الحزين، تدور الرواية في بيت فخم معتم ومتآكل، حيث تعيش سيدة عجوز مع مدبرة البيت الشابة \"أورا\" تحاول السيدة نشر مذكرات زوجها الجنرال الراحل، فتنشر إعلانا بالجريدة تطلب فيه مؤرخا شابا للقيام بالمهمة،التي يتصدى لها الباحث العاطل فيليبه، وتمضي الأيام الغامضة في البيت : الأرملة العجوز تحاول تحاول شراء الخلود المستحيل لزوجها، بينما يذوي بجوارها جمال الشابة وحيوية المؤرخ الشاب. رواية يختلط فيها الحاضر بالماضي، الاستيهام بالواقع، والحلم بالكابوس، لتبقى رواية استثنائية في مسيرة صاحبها، بل وفي تاريخ الأدب.
