هذه أربعة بحوث لئن اختلفت من حيث وقت كتابتها ومن حيث المناسبة الدافعة إلى إنجاز كل واحد منها، فإنها تلتقي في موضوعها وهو البحث في الإنسان من حيث قضاياه الوجودية وحقائقه النفسية والتكوينية، ثم النظر في أسئلته الكبرى التي ما فتئ يلقيها على نفسه ليحملها الفكر منه إلى العالم باحثا لها عن تأويل يقنعه. فإن أعجز قصور الفكر دله روحه الإلهي على ربه، وحرضه على قراءة كتابه السماوي الذي يعده لا ببلوغ الأرب في ميدان الحقيقة فحسب، بل أيضا بتحقيق ما يصبو إليه من طمأنينة النفس وسعادة الأبد.
