هذا الكتاب يطمح إلى تحليل التاريخ الاجتماعي والاقتصادي لليبيا بين عامي 1830 و1932 هذه المرحلة التي شهدت تحولات وإرهاصات عديدة بدأت بمحاولة الدولة العثمانية وبعدها الدول الرأسمالية الأوروبية في التغلغل الاقتصادي والسياسي في المغرب العربي وردود فعل المجتمع وفئاته وطبقاته من قبائل وطبقات وأقاليم وانعكاسات المصالح المختلفة والاقتصاد السياسي لهذه الفئات والطبقات والأقاليم والتحالفات القبلية الفلاحية سيطرت على دواخل ليبيا في القرن التاسع عشر قبل محاولة الدولة العثمانية بناء إدارة مركزية قوية في طرابلس الغرب.
