يسرد هذا الكتاب تاريخ الصومال وثقافة أهله بشكل موجز بما في ذلك الأعراق واللغات واللهجات والعادات والتقاليد كي يعرف القارئ هذا البلد عن قرب، كثير من شعوب الدول العربية وغير العربية يعتقدون أن الصومال بلد لا يوجد فيه سوى الجوع والجفاف والمرض لأن الإعلام العالمي كان يريد نشر تلك الأخبار التي كانت تركز على الجانب السلبي فقط كي يستعد للرحيل من تبقى في البلد، بينما الواقع مختلف تماما عن تلك الأكاذيب المغرضة، فالموارد الطبيعية التي من الله بها على الصومال لا تعد ولا تحصى، فمشكلة الصومال الكبرى تعود إلى انعدام الأمن المزمن الناتج عن التناحر القبلي، وبسبب ذلك يستحيل بناء دولة ذات سيادة تسيطر على زمام الأمور في جميع ربوع البلد، ولا شك أن هذا يحتاج إلى علاج فعال للأمراض القبلية التي حلت بأهل الصومال.
