في هذا الكتاب اختار أحمد أمين أن يركز على دراسة هذا المبحث ولكن بشكل تربوي، بحيث يبين لنا أهميته العملية قبل الفلسفية وبذلك فهو لا ينظر إلى الأخلاق كمقولة نظرية تتداولها ألسنة الفلاسفة وتحلق بها في برج عاجي بحيث تظل حبيسة جدران الكتب، وإنما ينظر إليها كممارسة اجتماعية حية تتحقق في واقعنا المعيش ونتلمس أثرها بشكل مباشر في كافة معاملاتنا الحياتية لذلك فهو يركز بشكل أساسي على مفاهيم أخلاقية فاعلة مثل الضمير والعدل والصدق والطاعة والتعاون.
