يبدأ الكتاب بمقدمة يستعرض فيها نظرية بناء الأجندة وصناعة الحرس البوابي الإعلامي، ويفصل مفهوم بناء الأجندة وطرق تأثيرها الإعلامي، ثم يدخل في العوامل المؤثرة في سوبر الأجندة الصحفية. الفصل الثاني يناقش العوامل المؤثرة في آليات التغطية الصحفية للمراسل الخارجي، مستعرضا مفهوم وميزات المراسل الخارجي وسير العمل المهني. أما الفصل الثالث، فيتناول مشكلات الجاسوسية وشبهة الترفيق الاستخباراتي للمراسل أثناء تغطيته، ويحلل المهارات اللازمة للمراسل الخارجي، ويعدل علاقة تداعيات التكنولوجيا على نقل المادة الصحفية، مؤكدا أهمية التوازن بين الموضوعية الإعلامية والشك المتعلق بالاتهام بـ\"جاسوسية\" من الجهات الرسمية أو العسكرية.
