Overview
\"The overriding goal of the proposed revision of The Psychology of Diversity: Beyond Prejudice and Racism is to create a book that will engage a wider audience, and address issues that have elevated in significance in the last decade. Three main aims of the revisions will be to (1) update the material (e.g., research, practical examples) to reflect more current empirical findings and encompass issues that are prominent today, and (2) offer a more expansive view of diversity, including some of the contentious issues it generates; and (3) provide a focus on ways to value and benefit from human diversity. The updates that we propose are substantive, not simply cosmetic. Besides making the literature that we cite more current; we plan to place more emphasis on including material to stimulate greater involvement of readers with issues of current concern. For instance, building on the key theme presented in the first edition of the book that admirable values often come in conflict around issues of diversity, we will illustrate key concepts and processes by explaining how they inform current debates about affirmative action or Critical Race Theory. We also will highlight developmental perspectives that examine how valuing differences develops and hostility toward them is produced\"-- Provided by publisher.
