يتناول الكتاب حيث يحاول أن يجيب على التساؤل حول ماهية الماركسية. ويحاول أن يشرح منطقها. حيث ينطلق من أن إضافة ماركس الجوهرية كانت في إعادته صياغة جدل هيغل بـ\"إيقافه على قدميه\"، عبر تحويله إلى جدل مادي، الأمر الذي أسس لمنهجية جديدة هي التي تسمح بوعي الواقع علمياً، وتفتح الإمكانية من أجل تغييره، وكان هذا التحول في أساس تبلور القوانين والتصورات والمبادئ، التي عرفت بـ\"الماركسية\"، والتي حل بعضها محل الجدل المادي ذاته، وأصبح هو \"الماركسية القويمة\"، إذن، الكتاب يعيد التحديد بأن الماركسية هي، أولا، وقبل كل القوانين والتصورات، \"الجدل المادي\". رغم أهمية هذه القوانين والتصورات، التي تبقى صحتها خاضعة \"للجدل المادي\" ذاته، كما للواقع المحدد. وفي الكتاب محاولة لتوضيح معنى \"الجدل المادي\"، وتلمس لتطبيقاته.
