هذا الكتاب مجموعة مقالات متفرقة تتحدث عن سوريا الوطن من الحاضر إلى التاريخ القريب والبعيد وفي مقدمته أشار إلى أسباب تسمية الكتاب بهذا الأسم وذلك بوحي من مي زيادة التي قالت ألعن وطني عندما يلعن المرء من يحب يكون الألم واليأس قد برحا به ويحاول الكاتب أن يقارب مقولات كبيرة كانت وراء مقالاته وكتابه هذا ما يوحي أن الكتاب يتعرض لقضايا غاية في الأهمية والعمق ومهما قربنا أو بعدنا فإن المجتمع السوري شأنه شأن المجتمعات العربية الأخرى محافظ في عقليته وتنسحب عليه تأزمات الشخصية القاعدية للشخصية العربية وإن الأنفتاح الذي عرفته سورية لا يختلف عمقا عن معظم البلدان العربية بعد الاستقلال.
