يُعد هذا الكتاب موسوعة تاريخية فريدة ترصد تحولات المشهد الصحي في السودان على مدى أكثر من 450 عاماً. يبدأ المؤلف د. طارق الهد برصد \"الطب التقليدي\" في عهد سلطنة الفونج (السلطنة الزرقاء)، وكيف تعامل المجتمع السوداني مع الأوبئة والأمراض باستخدام الأعشاب والكي والطب الروحي. ثم ينتقل الكتاب لتحليل الطفرة التي أحدثها الحكم التركي-المصري، وصولاً إلى الحقبة الاستعمارية (الحكم الثنائي البريطاني-المصري).
