لا توجد شخصية دينية وجدت من الإجماع عليها ما وجد النبي يحيى بن زكريا، ويبدو أن تقديسه في عدة أديان هو المعجزة الثانية بعد معجزة ولادته. كما أنه الشخص الوحيد الذي تماها مع السيد المسيح، ومع النبي إلياس حتى التبس الأمر بينهما. وهو وحده من له أعياد واحتفالات تجري حتى الآن. ومن الاطلاع الوافي على حياة يحيى ودعوته التي تبنتها أديان عدة نستخلص أن ذلك ما كان ليتم لو لم تكن كلها من نبع واحد، وتتبع إله واحد مهما اختلفت تسمياته. وما أحوجنا اليوم لإحياء شخصيات دينية توحد مفاهيمنا نحو خير الإنسانية وسعادتها الذي هو الهدف الأسمى لكل الأديان.ومع أن أساس هذا العمل هو كتاب المندائية المقدس \"دراشا اد يهيا\" لكن تم جمع كل ما يتعلق بيحيى من نصوص الكتب المقدسة للديانات الأخرى، لتشكل تراث النبي يحيى العابر للأديان، وجاءت تسميتها \"صحف يحيى\" لشمولها كل ما ورد عنه.
