درس اللسانيات شهد تطورا كبيرا في مختلف مستوياتِه، وجدت فيه قضايا جديرة بأن يطلع عليها طلاب اللغة العربية، وأن يلموا بمضامينها، ويفقهوا تطبيقاتها. وهذه الأفكار أو القضايا اللسانية أسهم في نقلها إلى العربية بعض اللسانيين العرب الرواد، وتابع نقلها متطورة باحثون واكبوا التطور العلمي فيها، وألفوا فيها كتبا بعضها تناولت نظرية بعينها، وأخرى ضمت نظريات أو قضايا مختلفة. ويأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن تلك الكتب التي حاولت نقل أهم قضايا الدرس اللساني الحديث وبيان تطبيقاتها على اللغة العربية.
