يحوي الكتاب مقدمة ومفاهيم للمصطلحات الهرمينوطيقا والتأويل، وجاء في خمسة فصول. الفصل الأول تناول الرؤية الكونية للممارسات الطقسية، فيما تحدث الفصل الثاني عن تاريخ الطقوس والشعائر. أما الفصل الثالث فقد تناول الثقافة السياسية والاقتصادية للطقوس العاشورائية. في الفصل الرابع تناول الباحث التأويل الثقافي للطقوس العاشورائية. أما الفصل الخامس والأخير فخصصه الكاتب لوصف الطقوس العاشورائية، وتلاها البوم الصور لمواكب هذه الطقوس. يسلط الباحث الضوء في كتابه على هذه الظاهرة وتاريخها وما مرت به من ظروف المنع في العراق قبل الاحتلال الأميركي عام 2003، وعلاقتها وصلاتها بظواهر أخرى حدثت في القرون الوسطى في المجتمع الأوروبي، وتحليل الظاهرة تحليلا اجتماعيا وسياسيا واقتصاديا. عاشوراء كربلاء الإمام الحسين.
