(كتاب الطاو والفضيلة) للفيلسوف الصيني لو تسو بترجمة رائعة لعلاء الديب واحد من أهم نصوص الحكمة العالمية وأكثرها تأثيرا وبترجمة علاء الديب البديعة، المؤلف هو رفيق كونفوشيوس الكبير، لكن بينما تهتم الكونفوشيوسية بسلوك البشر في الحياة اليومية، تخاطب الطاوية جانبا أكثر روحانية في حياة الإنسان. عاش لو تسو في القرن السادس قبل الميلاد، في الأرشيف الإمبراطوري في مدينة ليويانج، بمقاطعة هونان. وطبقا للأسطورة القديمة هجر الرجل الحياة كلها، ورفض أن يسجل الحكمة، يأسا من أحوال الناس وشرورهم، وعدم جدارتهم بالحكمة. هجر الحياة وانطلق وحيدا مع حماره، إلا أن حراس المناطق الشمالية أجبروه على تسجيل كلماته، ثم جمعوا هذه الكلمات فكانت الإحدى والثمانين قطعة التي أثرت بعد ذلك في الروح الصينية وفي الأساطير والتراث والثقافة الصينية كلها.
