يتناول الكتاب حيث يقوم هذا العمل على فرضية التمييز بين عنصرين أساسيين متلازمين، وتحديد العلاقة التي تربط بينهما. وهذان العنصران هما: فلسفة الفارابي التأملية من ناحية، وفيها يطالب بتبني سنة القدامى لي ومنها عدد من العلوم العريقة في معرفة الحقيقة وفي الطريق إليها، ومعطيات تاريخ الفكر الديني، وخصصنا كيفية التوجه دراسة إطارية وهي الفارابي وفلسفة الدين، ودراسات مطبقة على مسائل معينة وهي : الفقه وأصوله، وعلم الكلام وأصول الدين، ومفهوم التقدير في الفلسفة وفي الكلام، وتصنيف المدن وعلم َ الفرق، وكتاب مبادئ آراء أهل المدينة الفاضلة : مضمونه وطبيعته.
