تكمن أهمية الدراسة في أنها تعالج موضوعا يعد الأهم، إلا وهو موضوع العلاقات العراقية -الكويتية وهو يتجسد في محاولتنا لرصد طبيعة مسارات هذه العلاقات وآلياتها وإنعكاساتها على الطرفين ولا سيما تأثيرات الفصل السابع وإنعكاساته السلبية على تطوير البنى التحتية للعراق، والتي دمرت نتيجة الحروب المستمرة منذ العام 1980م، فإن خروج العراق من طائلة الفصل السابع اعتمد على تحسن العلاقات العراقية - الكويتية، وهو ما حصل بعد العام 2011.
