ابن تيمية شخصية مرجعية ومركزية مهمة في الفكر الإسلامي، وقد تنازعته أطراف النزاع على أرضية المرجعية التأويلية للإسلام، بين مؤيدين ومبجلين، وما بين معادين ومنتقصين، وكان من أثر ذلك أن غابت في خضم هذا النزاع مساحة مهمة من مساحات التزكية والسلوك في المنظومة التعبدية الإسلامية. تطرح هذه الدراسة الجانب التزكوي السلوكي لدى شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية، بإعتبار ذلك هو المعنى الحقيقي السني للتصوف، والذي مارسه أن تيمية ممارسة منضبطة، حيث طاف الباحث ً موقف بين محطات التصوف المشهورة، من مثل التوسل والإستغاثة والسماع والكشف، راصدا ابن تيمية منها، بالإضافة إلى مواقفه المختلفة من المتصوفة في عصره. كما أبرز الباحث جملة من أخطاء السلفية المعاصرة في تلقي وقراءة ابن تيمية، ومشكلات حصره في جملة من المقولات والمواقف والأفكار المقولبة.
