حقق السلطان سليم نصر مؤزرا ضد الجيش الصفوي في موقعة جالديران عام 1514، ومحا الشاه إسماعيل من صفحات التاريخ، وهكذا لم يبق في الدولة أي تمرد أو فوضى، وحافظ السلطان بشكل دائم على وحدة الأناضول وسط أجواء من الأمن والطمأنينة. بسط السلطان سيطرته على قلعة ديار بكر، وألحق ولايات جنوب شرق الأناضول بالدولة العثمانية، كما فتح البلاد العربية، وضم حلب والشام، وزار المسجد الأقصى.
