يرى عبد النور أن صراع الثقافات الغربية والعربيّة متأصل إلى حد كبير في أنماط التفكير المختلفة. وفي محاولة لفهم الثقافة العربية وإمكانياتها، ركز على المنظورات المعرفيّة الأساسية بدلا من السلوك المؤسسي والسياسي الواضح. قام المؤلّف بتحليل منتجات التفكير العربي وأجرى بحوثا تجريبية بواسطة مقاييس الأنماط الإدراكية. وأظهرت النّتائج أنّ السمة السائدة للعقل العربي هي الأسلوب المعرفي العقلاني. كما يتميز التفكير العربي بمحرك أساسي للتجريد يؤدي إلى ثنائية البعد، والعالمية، والأيديولوجيا، والتطرف، والوعي بحقوق المجتمع، والحاجة إلى دمج القيم النهائية مع الإدارة السياسية.
